Drinking to forget is not usually the best idea, but if any year has given us reasons to allow ourselves a small dose of evasion, it has been 2020. After living a pandemic, confinement, an economic crisis and multiple restrictions of all kinds, we want to fire the
quintessential
annus horribilis
with a decent drink in hand.
That's why our last video of the year is dedicated to cocktails, and includes the recipes for a few simple but delicious drinks.
With the aim that there is something for everyone, we have opted for a mimosa, a smash, a Manhattan, a Moscow mule and a daiquiri.
You don't have to be an aspiring
bartender
to make any of them.
And of course, we strongly advise against trying them all on the same day - hangover guaranteed.
MIMOSA
Ingredients
15 ml Triple Sec
45 ml of orange juice
90 ml of Brut cava
Preparation
Combine the Triple Sec and the orange juice in a glass of cava.
Fill with the cold cava pouring it little by little.
This cocktail can be perfectly prepared in larger quantities and served in a jug.
GIN BASIL SMASH
Ingredients
60 ml of gin
25 ml of lemon juice
25 ml simple syrup
10 large basil leaves
Simple syrup
Sugar
Water
Preparation
For the simple syrup, mix water and sugar in equal parts.
Heat the mixture in the microwave, stir, and cool to room temperature.
Simple syrup keeps well for several days in the fridge.
Pour the gin, lemon juice, simple syrup and basil leaves into a shaker filled with ice.
Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds or until ice forms on the outside.
Strain into a tall glass filled with ice.
Decorate if you like with a sprig of basil.
DAIQUIRI
Ingredients
60 ml white rum or a mix of white rum and dark rum
30 ml lime juice
25 ml simple syrup
Preparation
Chill the glass in which the drink is to be served in the freezer.
Prepare the simple syrup as in the previous cocktail.
Pour the rum, lime juice and syrup into a shaker filled with ice.
Shake for 15-20 seconds or until the shaker begins to freeze.
Pour into the chilled glass and, if you like, garnish with a lime wedge.
MANHATTAN
Ingredients
60 ml bourbon
30 ml of red vermouth
2 strokes of Angostura
A maraschino cherry (failing that, a cherry)
Preparation
Fill a shaker glass or wide, tall pitcher with ice.
Pour in the bourbon, vermouth and angostura and stir with a bar spoon or chopstick for 25-30 seconds.
Serve in a glass by passing it through a strainer.
Decorate with a cherry.
MOSCOW MULE
Ingredients
60 ml vodka
15 ml of lime juice
120 ml ginger beer
