The affected models could catch fire.
Current recall *
:
Due to the risk of fire, BMW and Mini cars are being recalled.
A total of around
145,000 cars
are likely to be
affected.
Affected cars are
ordered
to a
workshop
.
Kassel - It is not the first recall * at
BMW
in
2020:
The
car
manufacturer is calling back various vehicles again towards the end of the year.
The reason for the
recall
seems grave.
Affected BMW and Mini models could catch fire.
That should prevent a control visit to the workshop.
The fault that can be dangerous lies in the affected
BMW and Mini
cars
, in the exhaust gas recirculation system of the affected vehicles.

Recall from BMW and Mini: system for reducing exhaust emissions affected
A technical excursus follows to better understand the problem: exhaust gas recirculation is used to reduce pollutant emissions.
Another valve is located directly behind the intake valve, which diverts part of the exhaust gases and mixes it with the (fresh) air that has been drawn in.
The direct consequence of this is a lower oxygen concentration in the cylinder.
This in turn lowers the temperature in the cylinder and leads to up to 70 percent lower nitrogen emissions.
In order to reduce pollutant emissions even further, coolers are now being installed.
These cool the recirculated exhaust gases.
This method allows the temperature in the cylinder to be regulated even further.
Recall from BMW and Mini: radiator could cause fire
The cooler is exposed to high heat of several hundred degrees.
If there is a leak here, there is an acute risk of fire.
This is exactly the case with the
cars
