Known to be more contagious, it could boost the circulation of the virus if it were to spread.
The variant of Covid-19 discovered in the United Kingdom has been found in France, health authorities report on Friday.
The discovery took place in Tours (Indre-et-Loire).
"This is a man of French nationality residing in England," describes the Directorate General of Health in a press release.
He was detected positive for Covid-19 on his return from London on December 19.
He has since been placed in solitary confinement.
Tests have just confirmed that he was an asymptomatic carrier of the dreaded strain.
