Nancy Sinatra is an icon of pop, fashion and feminism. Sammy Davis Jr. was a good friend. She learned to sing from her father Frank. She was in front of the camera with Elvis Presley and she sang for US soldiers in Vietnam. In February - 55 years after their debut album »Boots« - a collection of their greatest hits will be released.
Sinatra is now 80 years old. She sat in front of her laptop in a red jacket for the interview. In the background you can see outside through a window, a US flag hangs limply in the California sun. Sinatra is bothered by the lighting conditions, finds her picture too dark, keeps repeating herself. She is only satisfied when she closes the blinds.
SPIEGEL:
Ms. Sinatra ...
Sinatra:
Call me Nancy!
SPIEGEL:
Nancy, your world successes as a singer were almost 50 years ago.
How do you feel when you think back to the 1960s?
Sinatra:
The sixties were very hectic, very crazy.
So much happened in the world and in the US.
The Vietnam War overshadowed everything and touched everyone's life.
