In Stuttgart two cinemas had to close this year, in the spring the Ufa-Palast with 13 halls and 4000 seats, now followed by the Metropol with 3 halls and 700 seats.

If you google newspaper articles about the closings, you have to expect that advertising for Netflix pops up within seconds.

This may be due to one's own search and surfing behavior, but it still has a symbolic effect: as if someone were dancing on the grave of their opponent.

While streaming services such as Netflix or Disney + are booming, the cinema is experiencing one of the worst crises in its 125-year history during the pandemic.

Since March the movie theaters in most parts of the world have either been closed or can only play with limited seating capacity due to the distance rules.

Many films that were supposed to keep the halls full were postponed until next year, such as the new Bond "No Time to Die" or the superhero spectacle "Black Widow".

Blockbusters like the Disney production »Mulan« were published in most countries without going through the cinemas straight away on streaming services and drove up their subscription numbers.
