The figures for new contaminations are distorted by the closure of laboratories during the Christmas holidays.

France will begin its vaccination campaign tomorrow and the first containers have arrived in the country.

But the end of the epidemic is not for now.

The daily reports of the health authorities will therefore continue to be scrutinized with attention.

This Saturday, the latest figures released by Public Health France show 3093 new contaminations in the country, against 20,262 Friday and 21,634 Thursday, after catching up.

SPF announced seven days ago some 17,565 new infections identified in the space of 24 hours.

Caution should be taken with today's figures.

The closing of laboratories during the Christmas holidays probably explains the weakness of these figures.

A significant catching up of epidemic figures could happen as early as next Monday.

2,640 patients in intensive care

France has entered "a high-risk season", to use Jérôme Salomon's phrase, and the hospital figures are undoubtedly the most decisive.

However, for many days, the curves have shown the formation of an epidemic plateau.

This is true for the number of hospitalized patients, which amounted to 24,444 patients this Saturday, against 24,359 Friday and 24,639 Thursday.

It is just as much for the number of patients taken care of in the intensive care units, numbering 2,640 in total this Saturday, against 2,616 on Friday.

In the past 24 hours, finally, health authorities have recorded some 146 deaths linked to the new coronavirus, against 159 on Friday.

Since the start of the epidemic, 43,352 people have lost their lives as a result of the disease in hospitals.
