A visit to the island on which the lonely house in the world is located (Roy Gregorio)

Pictures of a white house perched on a cliff on a tiny island have been circulating on the net in recent days to the delight of those seeking complete isolation.

Many joked that this is the perfect place to live in a plague due to the lack of neighbors, others testified that this is how they have been feeling for almost a year and there were also quite a few who wondered if this picture is real?

Is there really such an island with one single house or did we bury it in Photoshop?

So first of all, get confirmation: the pictures are completely real.

The only house in the world is located in Aliday, a remote island south of Iceland that has not been inhabited for over 100 years.

Being located in the middle of nowhere has led to the spread of some fascinating myths.

He was said to have been built by a billionaire who planned to move to the remote island in the event of a zombie apocalypse (Corona is not good enough?).

Some believed that a religious monk lived there.

Another popular theory - later refuted - was that the Icelandic government granted the island to a singer in York.

All these rumors turned out to be untrue.

The island of Aliday, which is part of the Westmanayar Archipelago, was inhabited until about 100 years ago.

5 families who lived there lived on fishing, sea parrot hunting and raising cattle.

In the thirties of the twentieth century the last inhabitants left the island which has remained desolate ever since.

The truth behind the mysterious house is far less exciting than the theories around it.

Unfortunately for anyone excited about the possibility of moving there to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life, the house built in the 1950s belongs to the Allied Hunting Association and serves as a hostel when they come to the area to hunt sea parrots, which themselves enjoy the abundant fish supply in the area.

In fact the house is their hunting ground.

Since the secluded house is located on a remote island, the property does not have electricity, running water and internal plumbing.

However, you will also find a sauna that operates by a rainwater collection system.

The island is registered as a nature reserve and protected area and tour companies offer day trips for tourists interested in exploring its natural environment.
