(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 26 - For the first time in the clear, on TV8, comes Das Boot, an original Sky production, on air from 28 December, every Monday, in prime time.

The eight-episode series (two a night aired on TV8) is inspired by the novel of the same name by Lothar-Günther Buchheim, as well as the smash hit film of 1981 (known in Italy as U-Boot 96), which received six nominations 1983 Oscars. The original Sky series was shot in Munich, La Rochelle, Prague and Malta and, even before its debut in Germany and Austria, was sold in over 100 territories around the world.

In the cast of international level, we find among others LizzyCaplan (Masters of Sex), Vicky Krieps (The hidden thread), RickOkon (Tatort), Tom Wlaschiha (The Throne of Swords), VincentKartheiser (Mad Men), August Wittgenstein (The Crown ), JamesD'Arcy (MARVEL's Agent Carter), Rainer Bock (Bastards without glory), Leonard Scheicher (Finsterworld).

Directed by the Austrian Andreas Prochaska, who also signed ADay for a Miracle, awarded with an International Emmy Award.

It is 1942 and the new submarine U-612, a prodigy of German engineering of the time, is ready to set sail from the French coastlines occupied by the Nazis for a mission in the Atlantic.

On board 40 young men of the Navy share a mission and the narrow spaces of the submarine.

Set during the Second World War, Das Boot describes, through the eyes of German soldiers, the blind fanaticism that pushes young people into a meaningless war, a theme that is still very topical.
