Uri Gross managed to crack the Israeli taste, otherwise how can one explain the success of each series he signed?
Following the success of series like "Our Song," "Danny Hollywood" and "True Hero," Torah Promise is a new musical series for children and teens starring Jonathan Margie.
The series, "PPS" (Personnel Pop Star), which airs today on the Tin Nick channel on yes, he co-created with Yoav Tzafir and alongside Margie, Anya Buxtein, Gili Nimani, Guy Zo-Aretz, Riff Ne'eman and Hannah Leslau.
At the center of the series is an innovative robot developed by robotics engineer Molly Abramson, called "Personal Pop Star" or PPS for short.
She gives the robot (played by Margie) as a gift to her daughter - which creates a series of events.
"The role was written for Margie," Gross says.
"We even managed to write another series for him, but we felt that for Margie's first role we needed a character that better suited his proportions and that's how PPS was born - a kind of captivating combination of man and machine."
How are Margie's acting skills?
"I think everyone who watches the series is really surprised by it. The common reaction is 'wow.' Jonathan is a natural talent that is mesmerizing in his presence on screen. In addition, he also worked very hard towards the role. Total devotion. And you see it. The fact that Yoav Tzafir, who discovered "In 'The Next Star', he was the director of the series - it really helped to get the actor out of it."
Unlike your previous series, this series has futuristic elements.
"Not at all. In" Danny Hollywood "there was a journey through time, in" Rest "there was a drug of youth, in" Forever "there were parents who become 17 years old, and in" A True Hero "there was a mixture of imagination and reality, so this is not exactly the first time. There is something more cinematic in this series, both in the script and in the production. "
How do you shoot a series during the Corona period?
"It's quite a nightmare. Every passerby in the set, from customs to extras, who suddenly turns out to be positive for Corona - disables the production for two weeks. And if an actor gets infected - then you can really say hello. Luckily we only had one such stop. For social distance, capsules and all sorts of annoying words. "
Quite a few Israeli series are sold abroad. Do you think this series has sales potential?
"PPS was pre-sewn as a series that can also appeal to audiences abroad, as it is at the moment. In our series it is usually problematic because of the song and music rights, this time we made sure all songs were approved. "In advance for an international version. I think this is a completely international series, whether in the Israeli version or in a remake that will be produced for it."
Do you feel you have high expectations when you launch a new series? The pressure is greater?
"The only thing that affects me is what the series looks like, what works and what doesn't work in my eyes. If it works for other people - it's not up to me anymore. I can only hope that people will like it."
You have previously participated in "Big Brother VIP".
What do you think of the new season?
"I think the new season does the job Big Time. But I guess the audience is very pleased and there are good characters. Personally I am a fan of Dror Contacto in the meantime, everything else is just non-existent, at the highest levels."
What's your next project?
"There are already some ideas on the agenda, at different stages of progress. There are also some ideas in English, intended for the wider world."
