In September 2020, bicycle trips in Italy increased by 27.5% compared to the same month in 2019. After the outbreak of the pandemic, 193 kilometers of new cycle paths were built in our country. In September 2020, bicycle trips in Italy increased by 27.5% compared to the same month in 2019. After the outbreak of the pandemic, 193 kilometers of new cycle paths were built in our country.

This was revealed by the 'Covid Lanes' dossier released this morning by Legambiente.



"In 2020 we discovered that it is possible to create, even in a few days, lanes reserved for bicycles with low costs and light interventions, along the priority axes and the most popular routes - writes Legambiente -. These are the so-called pop-up cycle paths, created later the lockdown in every part of the world. For the European Cyclists Federation (ECF), over 2,300 km of new sections have been built in Europe, with over 1 billion euros in investments ".



The Legambiente dossier, which examines Italian cities, detects a total of over 193 kilometers of pop-up cycle paths: Milan is the Italian city with the most kilometers completed, 35, followed by Genoa with 30



. June a 69% increase in requests for bicycle directions worldwide.

The Eco-Counter system, using its worldwide network of columns capable of identifying the passage of bikes, recorded in September 2020 an increase of 27.5% in Italy compared to September 2019, of 25.3 % in Portugal, 24.5% in France and 20% in the UK and Germany.



According to estimates by ANCMA, the association of Italian bike manufacturers, in May 2020 60% more bicycles were sold than in the same period of the previous year, also thanks to the government bonus.
