Mexican singer-songwriter Armando Manzanero, known as 'the king of romanticism' and considered one of the most important musicians in the history of the country, died today at the age of 85 from complications due to Covid-19. The Mexican media reported it. (HANDLE)


(ANSA) - MEXICO CITY, DEC 28 - The Mexican singer-songwriter Armando Manzanero, known as 'the king of romanticism' and considered one of the most important musicians in the history of the country, died today at the age of 85 from complications due to Covid-19.

    "With great sorrow, I mourn the death of Maestro Armando Mananzanero, one of the greatest composers of Mexico, his songs are a definitive part of the sentimental education of Mexicans. Generous and smiling, always committed to the culture. Thank you very much," he wrote on Twitter. Minister of Culture of Mexico, Alejandra Frausto.


    The author of Mexican romantic music classics was hospitalized on December 17 in Mexico City after testing positive for Covid-19.

Five days later, he was intubated for breathing difficulties.

Despite the hopes for doctors and family after some signs of improvement, Manzanero died this morning.


    Originally from Merida, in the state of Yucatan, Manzanero has composed, during his 70-year career, over 400 songs, with countless records sold and awards, including a Grammy Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2014. Also known in Italy among lovers of romantic music, the singer-songwriter he performed in June 1986 in a duo with Gino Paoli in the Rai program 1'Mundialissima Show 'by Gianni Minà.
