An elderly man rolled into the Rhine with a mobile home near Oberwesel.
The over 70-year-old from the greater Frankfurt am Main area got into the river via the ramp on the left bank of the ferry from the town of Kaub, the water police said.
The ferry driver immediately approached the mobile home floating in the current with his ship moving nearby, it said.
Another employee and two passengers climbed onto the roof of the vehicle and then saved the man.
He was alone in the mobile home.
The "at least slightly injured" senior was taken to a nearby hospital, according to the water police.
The mobile home was maneuvered to the bank and tied there with ropes.
It will probably be recovered with a special crane, they said.
A police helicopter was also used.
The police are still investigating how the accident came about.
