Cancer is now a widespread disease and in many cases is fatal.
Scientists have now come across a promising active ingredient.
Cancer cells
develop and multiply in the body in an uncontrolled manner.
The results of a
study
now report new
findings
in the fight against
cancer
*.
Researchers at
the Max Planck Institute discovered an
inhibiting agent
that prevents cancer cells from growing.
Kassel -
Cancer diseases
are unfortunately not uncommon these days and are the second most common
cause of death
after cardiovascular diseases
.
But there are high hopes in cancer therapy: after intensive research, scientists are now providing information about a
new active ingredient
that inhibits the growth of cancer cells and is also well tolerated.
New findings in cancer study: researchers discover inhibiting agent
According to the Federal
Ministry of
Health,
cancer
is the malignant development of body cells which, in contrast to healthy body cells, multiply in an uncontrolled manner.
As the specialist portal heilpraxis.net now reports, researchers at the
Max Planck Institute for Biology of Aging have
now reached a
milestone in cancer research
: They discovered an active ingredient that
can prevent
the unrestrained
growth of cells
.
Scientists only recently discovered that bacteria can be used as cures for cancer.
According to a recent announcement from the
institute
, the newly developed active ingredient
“starves”
cancer cells
by attacking the mitochondria, which are important for spreading.
Mitochondria are cell organelles that supply cells with energy and building blocks, which in turn are necessary for the normal function of tissues and organs.
According to experts, cancer stem cells are heavily dependent on a mitochondrial metabolism in order to continue to multiply.
Study in the fight against cancer: Scientists develop new active ingredient
The scientists from the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Aging, the Stockholm Karolinska Institute and the University of Gothenburg report in the journal “Nature” that their
study could have
promising results
in
cancer therapy
in humans.
In contrast to drugs that have already been developed, which inhibit the function of the mitochondria but are toxic, the researchers have now developed an
active ingredient
that is particularly well tolerated.
"We have succeeded
in developing
a potential
cancer drug
that
targets
the function of the mitochondria without causing serious side effects and without damaging healthy cells," said study author Dr.
Nina Bonekamp from the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Aging.

Latest cancer study: the active ingredient slows growth and is well tolerated
Mitochondria contain their own hereditary substance or a genetic material, the reading of which is controlled by special proteins.
One of these proteins is the enzyme "mitochondrial RNA polymerase", or POLRMT for short.
The researchers came in collaboration with the Lead Discovery Center
to the realization that a
POLRMT-inflammatory agent
, the
cancer cells
can die and the
tumor growth
may slow sharply.
The tests were carried out on mice with tumor diseases, which also tolerated the inhibiting agent very well.
“Our data suggests that we are basically starving cancer cells to death.
This works, at least for a while, without any major, toxic side effects.
This gives us a potential therapeutic window of time for
treating cancer,
”explains Dr.
Nina Bonekamp according to heilpraxis.net.
In addition, she is certain that the valuable test results and findings obtained will be used in many areas of
cancer therapy in the
future.
