  • Batch: OA350020356 / 2-11-443

The recall * was issued for

"reasons of preventive consumer protection"

.

Since the company did not

mention

a

sales area for

the contaminated fruit

in its notification of December 24th,

a nationwide sale in Rewe branches should be assumed to be on the safe side.

The poison is

"ochratoxin A"

("storage mold").

Consumption is strongly discouraged

As a precaution, Rewe is recalling a product - it could contain a neurotoxin

According to the Bavarian Ministry of Health, ochratoxins can occur in many plant and animal foods, for example in cereals such as rice, barley, oats and wheat and many types of fruit and vegetables such as grapes or figs.

"Ochratoxin A is

kidney and liver damaging

and is classified

as a potentially carcinogenic substance for humans

because of its

carcinogenic effect

in test animals," it says.

It is also a

neurotoxin

, has a teratogenic effect and attacks the immune system.
