(ANSAmed) - ROME, DECEMBER 28 - The Saudi human rights activist Loujain al-Hathloul was sentenced to five years and eight months in prison by a specialized Saudi anti-terrorism court, local media report.
He was found guilty of "various activities prohibited by the law against terrorism".
Hathloul, 31, was arrested in 2018 - along with other activists - for driving alone a few weeks before the ban was lifted - a reform they fought for.
After being tried in the Riyadh Criminal Court, the case was transferred last month to the Special Criminal Court (SCC), which deals with terrorism.
There they were accused of having contacted non-better defined foreign organizations "not friends" of Riyadh.
The major international human rights NGOs such as Amnesty International and Human RightsWatch have dealt with his case.
