The Minister of the Interior, Gerald Darmanin, accompanied by the Minister of the Armed Forces Florence Parly co-chaired the ceremony of tribute to the three gendarmes killed in service, this Monday afternoon.
Arno Mavel, 21, Cyrille Morel, 45, and Rémi Dupuis, 37, intervened to help a woman victim of domestic violence, near Saint-Just, in Puy-de-Dôme.
Welcoming the 3 men "who gave their lives to accomplish their mission", Gérald Darmanin presented the deceased soldiers with several distinctions including the Legion of Honor.
Chief Warrant Officer Bertrand Boyon, who was injured during the operation, was knighted in the Legion of Honor before the start of the tribute ceremony.
He was also decorated with the national gendarmerie medal with bronze palms and the internal security medal with the gold echelon.
Several hundred people attended the ceremony, in front of a giant screen installed on Place Charles-de-Gaulle, where it was broadcast for Ambertois.
The families of the three gendarmes, representatives of the Gendarmerie, local elected officials and representatives of the Republican Guard were able to attend the tribute ceremony, which took place at Place du Pontel.
From this Monday, a guest book is open in town hall to pay tribute to the military.
