(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 29 - Six people who returned to India from Great Britain tested positive for the British variant of the coronavirus.
This was announced by the Indian Ministry of Health as reported by the Guardian.
The six infected were placed in solitary confinement, the people who traveled with them were tracked down and those with whom they had close contact were placed in quarantine.
India suspended all flights from the UK until the end of the month, but around 33,000 passengers had arrived since the end of November before the ban.
With 10.22 million cases of Covid-19, India has the second highest number of infections, after the United States.
However, 16,432 new cases have been recorded in the past 24 hours, the lowest daily increase since June 25.
