(ANSA) - MOSCOW, 29 DEC - An investigation into "vast scale fraud" has been opened in Russia against the opponent Alexei Navalny, recovering in Germany after a presumptive attempt to poison his country last summer. The Russian Investigative Committee, which deals with some of the most serious crimes, has announced that Navalny is accused of having spent for personal purposes 356 million rubles (3.9 million euros at current exchange) collected by "various" of its organizations, in particular for the fight against corruption and defense of human rights.
In a statement, the Communiqué states that Navalny, President Vladimir Putin's best-known opponent, is suspected of having used the money to purchase "personal property and goods" and to pay for various expenses, including "holidays abroad". (HANDLE).
