“Good riddance 2,020”.

In a virtually empty Times Square, a handful of New Yorkers gathered for Good Riddance Day.

A traditional event, it allows its followers to share their memories, printed and then shredded during the official celebration.

It is also an opportunity to send greetings for the New Year.

On site, visitors wish to see the coronavirus disappear: “I would like to see my family.

They live in Puerto Rico and I want to see them more often, so the Covid needs to go away so I can travel and see them more, ”says Veronica, a New York resident.

For her part, Christine, a therapist from Connecticut, hopes for 2021 "a treatment so that we can start traveling again, have fun".

While the wishes will be shredded on New Year's Eve, Times Square, a symbolic location for the December 31 festivities, risks being empty on New Year's Eve.

Its traditional release of confetti on the public will, among other things, be replaced by a virtual event.

A New York tradition, which had not been interrupted since World War II.
