Adieu, WhatsApp?
The app will soon no longer run on older smartphones.
Cell phones from Apple and Samsung are also affected.
WhatsApp *
no longer
supports older versions of
iOS
and
Android
.
On some older
smartphones
intended
app
soon stop working correctly.
Models from some well-known
manufacturers
are apparently affected.
Kassel -
is by far the most popular messenger in
Germany
.
Millions of people use the
app
every day to keep in touch with their fellow human beings.
Especially during the
corona pandemic
, the service is a real helper due to the drastic contact restrictions.
But that could soon be an end for many people, because
WhatsApp will soon no longer work
on some
smartphones
- including models from
Samsung
and
Apple
.
WhatsApp: Older smartphones no longer compatible - including Apple
As the news magazine Entrepreneur reports, many
smartphones
will no longer be
compatible
with the popular
app
from 2021
.
Accordingly, numerous
Apple
and
Android
users will have to
say goodbye to
in the coming year
.
Unless you
upgrade
to a newer model or install an
update of
the operating system - if this is possible.
The official WhatsApp website already states that
support
is
only offered for the following operating systems
:
Android
with version 4.0.3 or newer.
iPhone
with iOS 9 or newer.
Select
phones with
KaiOS 2.5.1
and later - including JioPhone and JioPhone 2.
Apple: At least iOS 9 is required for WhatsApp
The
Apple
operating system
iOS 9
is no longer supported by the iPhone 4 and earlier models.
The iPhone models 4S, 5, 5S, 5C, 6 and 6s, on the other hand, just need an update of the operating system, which, however, also takes up a certain amount of storage space.
Considering the fact that iOS 9 was released in 2015, many
iPhone
owners
should
breathe a sigh of relief.
Unless you still haven't installed one of the newer
operating
systems.
Not only Apple affected: some Android users will soon be unable to use WhatsApp properly
But not only the
iPhone
from
Apple
is affected by the changes.
Even smartphones that have a version older than
Android
4.0.3.
installed,
will no longer
be able to use
correctly in the future.
This affects the
Samsung Galaxy
S2 and the HTC Desire
, among others
.
According to it-blogger.net, WhatsApp version 2.20.198.15 released in September no longer even supports Android 4.0.3 and requires at least Android 4.1.
However, it is unlikely that the well-known
messenger app will
suddenly stop working on affected smartphones on January 1st, 2021.
Probably there will be
problems
and
malfunctions
with WhatsApp
with the old operating systems
.
