(ANSA) - ROME, DECEMBER 30 - The year of the pandemic brought cinema to its knees with the closure of the theaters.
Based on the 2020 final balance drawn up by Cinetel, a company that takes over about 95% of the box office of the entire market, in Italy the total collection was over 182.5 million euros for about 28 million tickets sold, with a decrease of more than 71, 3% for receipts and more than 71% for attendance.
From 8 March, the first day of national closure of theaters, the market in 2020 recorded approximately 93% less receipts and admissions compared to 2019 (for a negative difference of more than 460 million).
Previously, at the end of February, before the start of the emergency, the market grew in terms of revenue by more than 20% compared to 2019, by about 7% compared to 2018 and more than 3% compared to 2017.
As regards Italian productions, including eco-productions, Cinetel shows a collection of over 103 million euros for a number of admissions equal to more than 15 million admissions and a share of the total of approximately 56% thanks to the result of national productions in the months of January and February.
The three films that have generally recorded the best box office grossing results are: "Tolo Tolo" (46.2 million takings), "Me contro te - il film" (9.5 million) and "Odioestate" (7.5 million ).
Faced with such dramatic numbers, Anica and Anec ask for August and Parliament for "permanent support measures" at the reopening of the theaters.
