What to also remember

  • Nice is getting ahead of the vaccine.

The vaccination campaign started on Sunday only concerns nursing homes for the moment.

And Minister Olivier Véran to respond Tuesday evening to criticism on a supposed "delay" compared to other countries: "We made another choice, which I claim, which is to rely on doctors, health professionals , to vaccinate the elderly in nursing homes and not to make them travel.

It takes longer to start up.

    This delay, I assume.

[…] I do not confuse speed and haste, ”he insisted.

But faced with the resurgence of cases in Nice, Mayor LR Christian Estrosi said that the campaign would be launched on Wednesday "early".

First in CHU, then in retirement homes, before being extended at the end of January by age group, starting with those over 65.

  • Cold and snow for the transition to 2021.

The thermometer has been dropping since Christmas while storm Bella has already watered a good part of France, causing snowfall, flooding, power cuts and other damage.

This Wednesday, several departments are still vigilant, including four in orange for flood.

The temperature should dip further within a few hours.

“Classic winter conditions”, according to meteorologist Steven Testelin.

“But the contrast with the very great softness that we experienced from the beginning of the month until the 22nd is striking,” he agrees.

The cold snap should make us start the year 2021 by shivering a little more, this Friday.

  • Chaos in Yemen.

At least two explosions occurred on Wednesday at Aden airport when a plane carrying the new unity government arrived in the provisional capital of warring Yemen.

A security source reported several injuries, without being able at this stage to specify the results.

After more than a year of negotiations under the aegis of Saudi Arabia, a coalition government was formed in mid-December.

It brings together ministers loyal to Yemeni President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi and separatists belonging to the Southern Transition Council (STC).

  • The post-Brexit agreement finally signed.

A few hours before the United Kingdom's exit from the single European market, the leaders of the European Union signed on Wednesday the historic post-Brexit agreement concluded with London to frame this unprecedented rupture.

"The result of months of intense negotiations in which the EU has shown unprecedented unity", welcomed the President of the European Council, Charles Michel.

And to assure: "It is a fair and balanced agreement which fully protects the fundamental interests of the Union.

On the British side, the text must be validated this Wednesday by the deputies.

It "shows that the United Kingdom can be both European and sovereign", assured Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The unexpected info

Successful mobilization to save an endangered species in France.

The Ana-Conservation of natural spaces Ariège association will be able to buy an entire cave, thanks to the success of its crowdfunding campaign launched in mid-December to acquire that of Espiougue, which is home to a large colony of Eurasian Rhinolophs and Schreibers Minioptera, two endangered bat species.

The Espiougue cave is home to a large colony of two species of bats considered endangered in France / Boris Baillat

More than 12,000 euros have already been collected while the initial objective was 2,000 euros.

The idea is to install a system to close the cave, especially at the time of reproduction.

The association also wants to make the general public aware of the fate of these species which too often have a bad press.
