A syringe could soon help in addition to the corona vaccinations: British researchers are currently testing a drug that should help against the corona virus.

  • Vaccinations

    against the

    corona

    virus have been taking place

    across Germany

    since

    December 27, 2020

    .

  • In addition to the

    vaccine

    , another drug will soon

    serve

    as

    emergency

    protection and

    help

    against

    Corona *

    .

  • British researchers examined in a

    study

    a medication which currently

    virus

    could neutralize.

Kassel / London - Since December 27, 2020, the

corona vaccine from

the Mainz-based company Biontech has been administered

in numerous vaccination centers throughout Germany

to counteract the rapidly developing pandemic.

Researchers from the UK are also currently testing a drug as an

emergency protection

that

should help

quickly against the

virus

.

Will there soon be quick help against the coronavirus in addition to the vaccinations?

According to reports from the

Bild newspaper

, British researchers are currently testing

a so-called

emergency protection system

in a

study

, which is intended to prevent a serious course of the disease and thus

help

against

Covid-19

.

The

remedy

is the drug "AZD7442" from the drug manufacturer AstraZeneca, which consists of two different

antibodies

* that

are supposed to

neutralize

the

virus quickly

.

Current corona study: researchers are testing drug as emergency protection

As reported by the British broadcaster

BBC

, the

agent with the

antibodies was

administered in the form of a syringe to ten test subjects who had previously had close contact with people who tested positive at University College London Hospitals (UCLH).

The test results are pending publication, but if this drug is found to be effective, it could

protect

people at

high risk

and

those

at

risk

who have not yet been vaccinated or cannot be vaccinated.

Especially allergy sufferers should inform themselves extensively about the vaccination.

'... The trial, run at @uclh, is looking at whether an #injection of two different #antibodies could prevent someone who has been exposed to #Covid from developing the #disease - or at least from becoming very ill ... '# Covid19 #prevention https://t.co/tmDwHw2njV

According to the manufacturer, the drug is able

to maintain

protection for up to a year

.

Virologist and head of the

study

, Dr.

Catherine Houlihan plans to test the drug on 1,000 more people in the near future.

“The vaccination works by donating antibodies.

It skips the phase in which the body does the work to create it, ”says Houlihan.

The virologist also explains that this technique already works for other viruses, such as

rabies or chickenpox

.

Study aims to clarify: Can corona infections be combated with the drug?

The antibody mix should also solve another problem: Since the approved vaccines against the virus initially need a few weeks before complete protection can be established, the

emergency

protection could

neutralize

the

viruses

in precisely this period of time

and therefore a severe

corona disease course

in people that have already become infected.

But

people with immunodeficiency

or

chemotherapy patients

could also be helped with the injection:

Another study

that was carried out at UCLH is investigating whether the same drug can also prevent a person from being infected with corona at all.

However, since the test results are not yet known, this is unclear.
