Stock Exchange: Milan is worth 607 billion, 37% of GDP

The overall capitalization of the companies listed on Piazza Affari stands at 607 billion euros, equal to 37% of GDP. This is what is read in the Borsa Italiana Market Review 2020, on data updated as of December 28th. (HANDLE)


(ANSA) - MILAN, 30 DEC - The overall capitalization of the companies listed on Piazza Affari stands at 607 billion euros, equal to 37% of GDP.

This is what is read in Borsa Italiana's Reviewmercati 2020, on data updated to 28 December.


    Compared to last year, the capitalization is reduced due to the decrease in the Ftse Mib index which recorded a contraction of 5.2%.

Last year Borsa Italiana had added 655.6 billion in capitalization.

The FtseItalia All Share index recorded a contraction of 5.3%.

At the end of December 2020 there were 377 listed companies on the Borsa Italiana markets.

There were 24 admissions, of which 22 IPOs with a collection of € 706 million.


    Share exchanges are growing, with a daily average of 2.4 billion euros (+ 9.6% compared to 2019), exceeding 346,000 daily contracts (+ 35.8%).

Intesa Sanpaolo was the most traded share by turnover, with a total of € 65.9 billion, and the most traded in terms of contracts with just under 6 million contracts.

The SME sector, and in particular the Star segment, stood out for having outperformed the main indices.

The Ftse ItaliaStar index records double-digit growth on an annual basis of 13.7%.


    In a year "as complex as the one that is ending, the role of Borsa Italiana has been fundamental to support the economy of our country through efficient, liquid and transparent markets", affirms Raffaele Jerusalmi, CEO of Borsa Italiana.
