As in every year, with the turn of the year there are some changes for the taxpayer.

This is also the case in the Corona year 2020. Read here what needs to be considered.

The year 2020 was marked by many changes.

We will still feel some of them in the new year.

The tax is reformed every year and presents the taxpayer * with new guidelines and laws.

A

summary of the changes

should provide information.

Tax return 2020: changes that affect everyone

  • Basic tax-free allowance

    :

The basic allowance is the amount that the tax office issues you annually.

    A

    basic

    allowance

    of

    9,408 euros has been

    set

    for people

    living alone

    .

    For

married couples it is an amount of 18,816 euros

    .

That is an increase of 360 euros per person compared to the previous tax year!

  • Maintenance

: Anyone who pays maintenance can state this as an extraordinary burden.

    The

    maximum amount

    for this is now

    at

    9,408 euros

    .

  • Tax class change

Tax return 2020: changes that affect employees and self-employed

  • Commuter flat-rate

    : An

    increase is

    due here.

A commuter flat rate of 35 cents now applies from the 21st kilometer.

For comparison: in the previous year it was 30 cents.

  • Short-time work

: Due to the corona pandemic, many employees had to take short-time work.

All those who are concerned are obliged to file a tax return.

The reason for this is the

    progression proviso

    .

    The employer has

    paid

a small tax rate, so that you as an employee have to pay

    higher taxes

    .

  • Home office

: Not only short-time work turns the 2020 tax return on its head.

The increased work on the home PC can also be canceled.

Strictly speaking, there is a flat rate for the home office, which is 5 euros per day.

  • Moving costs

: Even if there were many complications on the labor market in the Corona year, some may still have work-related moving costs.

Here the tax office differentiates between different data.

    If you moved

between March 1st and May 31st,

singles can claim 820 euros, and spouses and life partners together 1,639 euros.

For each additional person who has moved, a flat rate of 361 euros applies.

    A

    move from June 1st

    will be credited higher.

You can claim 860 euros for yourself and 573 euros for each additional household member.

  • Tuition costs

    : If children

    need tuition

    in the course of moving

due to professional reasons of their parents

, you can also deduct this.

Here, too, it is important to see when the move took place.

The period from March 1st to May 31st is supported with 2,066 euros and from June 1st with a maximum rate of 1,146 euros.

  • Benefits in kind

    : Benefits in kind include

    meals and accommodation costs

that are covered by your employer.

The meal costs are divided into breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Breakfast has to be given at 1.80 euros and lunch or dinner at 3.40 euros.

7.70 euros per day are charged for accommodation.

For

small businesses the

following applies: If the turnover is less than 22,000 euros, no sales tax has to be charged.
