Bad weather with rain, snow and sleet - this is the forecast of the German Weather Service (DWD) for the coming days.

It is true that snowfall will set in from the west on New Year's Eve, but little should remain at up to six degrees plus below around 400 meters, said DWD meteorologist Markus Übel.

According to the forecast, a white winter landscape is reserved for the higher elevations of the low mountain ranges.

From the weekend this could change with falling temperatures.

On New Year's Eve, according to the forecast, a few centimeters of fresh snow can be expected in the Eifel and Hunsrück, during the day also in the Rothaargebirge, Taunus, Westerwald and the north Hessian mountains above 400 to 500 meters.

It should also snow in the Black Forest and the Swabian Alb.

Clouds in the north, sun in the south

According to the DWD, on New Year's Eve it is frosty down to the lowlands, so it can be slippery.

There are seldom larger gaps in the clouds.

According to the forecast, the north will have to be satisfied with dirty weather on New Year's 2021, while in the north-east it will temporarily snow a little down to the lowest elevations.

The south, on the other hand, can probably look forward to some sun.

According to the DWD, temperatures will drop towards Sunday - so that new snow can also remain in lower elevations.
