(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 31 - The satisfaction for having reached an agreement on Brexit with Brussels did not last long for Boris Johnson.
A few hours after the signing of the agreement of the British premier, his father, Stanley, publicly announced that he had applied for French citizenship and thus maintain links with the European Union.
Johnson senior, who voted Remain in the referendum on divorce from Europe in 2016, explained on RTL radio that his mother was born in France to a French mother.
"Basically I am too and this makes me very happy," the 80-year-old said in perfect French.
"I will always be European. You can't tell the British: you are no longer European. Having ties with the European Union is important," added Boris's father.
