Here is the program for January 2021.

NETFLIX

"24 Hours chrono", the integral

The first fiction to deal with anti-terrorism after the attacks of September 11, 2001, “24 Heures chrono” is a fiction that has marked the history of television series.

In particular by its format, in near real time, where a 42-minute episode corresponds to one hour in the story.

Each 24-part season thus represents a full day during which the hero Jack Bauer, played by Kiefer Sutherland, must save the United States, and even the world, from a terrorist threat.

The rhythm and the almost unbearable suspense captivate from start to finish, even if some seasons are much less successful than others.

Available from January 1st.

EDITOR'S RATING: 4/5

"Cobra Kaï", season 3

Season 3 of the series which continues the “Karate Kid” saga with the same actors as in the 1990s has just arrived on Netflix.

Mixing his sequences with pictures of "old" films, the series makes us live the emotional reunion, amazing, instructive ... In the vein of previous seasons, this latest glad, moves and hangs input set.

Available since January 1st.

EDITOR'S RATING: 4/5

"Lupine"

Fifty years after the cult series "Arsène Lupine", Netflix attacks the hero of Maurice Leblanc.

But Omar Sy does not succeed Georges Descrières.

He plays Assane Diop whose father was accused of a crime he did not commit and died of it.

To avenge him, he will be inspired by his hero, the gentleman-burglar ...

A year and a half after season 2, the ten new episodes of Matt Groening's animated series will take Princess Bean to another world, Steamland, seen at the end of the last unreleased ones, which will allow us to introduce some newcomers.

And the heroine's problems with her mother and part of the kingdom will continue…

"Dawson", the integral

This is a series for teens that has marked a whole generation.

At the end of the 1990s, “Dawson” and his hero arrived who sought to analyze everything rather than live in the present moment.

Her romantic dilemmas between her lifelong friend Joey and high school newbie Jen.

And his mate Pacey, all excited by his hormones.

An extremely well written series full of cinematographic references which is rediscovered with happiness by ignoring the really dated looks.

"Riverdale", season 5

Return to the small town of Riverdale for fans of the series of the same name, at the rate of one episode per week, following the American broadcast (on the CW channel and not on Netflix across the Atlantic).

This pop and black series in which the heroes are teenagers with the preoccupations of adults who are measured against serial killers has blown hot and cold since its inception.

After a particularly laborious season 4, we are waiting for a new lease of life.

On the plot side, the two flagship couples of the series, Betty and Jughead on one side, Veronica and Archie on the other, are more than ever shaken by the feelings that resurface between the first and the last ...

Available January 21.

"Ten percent", season 4

After its broadcast in the fall on France 2, the fourth and normally final season of the brilliant French series “Ten percent” arrives on Netflix.

The guest stars of this new season shine in the spotlight, especially women: Sandrine Kiberlain, Charlotte Gainsbourg or Sigourney Weaver.

On the program: always a lot of self-mockery but also new difficulties within the ASK agency.

Special mention to Laure Calamy, in the role of Noémie, Mathias' assistant and companion who is now embarking on production.

Available January 21.

EDITOR'S RATING: 4/5

"Destiny: The Winx Saga", season 1

They have enchanted many children since 2004. But for the first time, the fairies of the "Winx Club" will come to life.

After a spin-off in 2016 and 2017, Netflix commissioned a live-action series.

"Destiny: the Winx saga" thus takes up the original story of the cartoon, by focusing on the arrival of five girls at the fairy university of Alféa to learn how to use their powers.

Available January 22.

"Snowpiercer", season 2

Launched in early 2020, and adapted from the film by Bong Joon-Ho (the director of “Parasite”), himself transposed from the French anticipatory comic “Le Transperceneige”, the series “Snowpiercer”, after a somewhat slow start , had ended up seducing thanks to its delusional and suspenseful stories, its stunning special effects and its very successful casting.

The new season, which always tells how a gigantic train carrying the last human survivors goes around an Earth ravaged by freezing cold without being able to stop, is still produced by the brilliant Korean filmmaker.

It should accentuate the social side of the story, with its wealthy upper-class travelers trying to dominate the poor at the back of the train, even though reversals had started at the end of season 1…

Available January 26.

AMAZON PRIME VIDEO

"American Gods", season 3

The spooky adaptation of the novel "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman continues with this season 3. The hero, Ombre Moon, has now understood that he is the son of Odin and wants to cut ties with all the deities while the war is more and more imminent between old and new gods.

After a mind-blowing first season and a less inspired second, “American Gods”, like its main character, still seems to be looking for itself.

However, we remain attached to this story thanks to Ian McShane in the skin of the Traveler, alias Odin.

Available January 11.

EDITOR'S RATING: 3.5 / 5

"New York, special unit", seasons 11 to 13

The longest-running evening series on American television is in its 22nd season across the Atlantic.

While seasons 8-10 were already available on Amazon Prime Video, the platform is adding the following three in mid-January.

It is still far from the integral of this thriller devoted to sexual crimes, but the effectiveness of the series cannot be denied and it is always rediscovered with pleasure.

The actress Mariska Hargitay, present from the start, still plays the leading role and expertly leads her team.

Available January 15th.

"South Park", season 23

The most irreverent cartoon kids are back.

With its season 23, "South Park" does not change a recipe that works, between trash humor and swear words at will.

A tone that even displeased China, to the point that all mention was removed from the Internet locally after the second episode, caricaturing the Middle Empire.

The creators even had to apologize… while making fun of Xi Jinping!

Available January 21.

"Star Trek: Lower Decks", season 1

The “Star Trek” galaxy continues to unfold on Amazon.

After "Picard" at the start of 2020, it's the turn of "Lower Decks" to make its appearance.

But this time it is an animated series with a significantly different tone.

What to seduce the youngest.

Available January 22.

MYCANAL

"The Fall", season 1

The Irish series of 2013 which gave the French remake “Insoupçonnable” is a jewel which cannot be reduced to its 4-star cast: Gillian Anderson, the star of “X-Files” seen recently in “The Crown”, opposite Jamie Dornan, sublime actor of the saga “Fifty Shades of Gray”, revelation of this series, whose dark side is obvious.

From the start, we know that Paul Spector, the perfect father, is a predator who rapes and kills young brunette women.

It remains to be seen if Stella Gibson, a cold-blooded investigator, will succeed in arresting him.

Perfectly written, with ellipses and a maximum of suspense, the series is especially valid for its realization, which connects the back and forth between the stalking of the cop and the crimes of the maniac, whose scenes obviously respond to each other.

Except that Paul Spector is always one step ahead…

Available January 2 (for Polar + subscribers)

"The Good Lord Bird"

A young black boy finds himself embarked on his gang and delivers his story in this series adapted from novel "L'Oiseau du bon Dieu" by James McBride, published in 2013, which combines historical facts and fiction.

Ethan Hawke is the co-creator of this fiction in seven episodes and lends his features to John Brown, whom he embodies with powerful energy in this fresco as incongruous as it is funny.

Available January 7.

EDITOR'S RATING: 4/5

"UFO (s)"

In 1978, Didier Mathure, a rocket scientist, had to accept, after a failed launch, to head GEPAN, a new cell, mocked by all, responsible for studying the signs of extraterrestrial presence in the French sky. at CNES.

But Mathure will quickly fall under the spell of his new, passionate and a little strange acolytes, then start to believe in UFOs himself, while a mysterious head of the gendarmerie makes him miserable ... With his short 30-minute episodes, the care taken in its decorations and places of the time, its amazing casting, its dazzling soundtrack, its completely goofy humor and its lively staging, "OVNI (s)" is the best surprise of the beginning of the year.

A funny and moving series, ideal for relaxing but also for learning a lot about UFOs and this GEPAN which still exists, carried by a formidable Melvil Poupaud in the role of the hero.

Available January 11.

EDITOR'S RATING: 4.5 / 5

"Dead Pixels"

Unpretentious British comedy, “Dead Pixels” features two young adult video game enthusiasts who spend several hours each day (including when they are at the office) in the fantastic world of “Kingdom Scrolls”, their favorite title at the moment.

Meg and Nicky form a trio with Usman, a father who is also devoured by the consuming passion for online and community gaming.

We often laugh in front of this series where the obsession with heroes gives rise to absurd situations.

Available January 22.

EDITOR'S RATING: 3.5 / 5

"Your Honor"

Bryan Cranston, whose role as Walter White in "Breaking Bad" marked the history of the series, returns in a leading role on the small screen with "Your Honor".

In this American fiction adapted from an Israeli format (a French version is also currently in development with Gérard Depardieu), he plays Michael Desiato, a respected judge.

But when his son kills another young man by hitting him behind the wheel of his car and leaves the scene without waiting for help, he denies all his beliefs in order to protect his son, even if it means having someone else accused of the crime.

Unsurprisingly, the 64-year-old actor is excellent and manages to convey all the contradictions of the title role.

Too bad the scenario is sorely lacking in credibility.

Available January 28.

EDITOR'S RATING: 3.5 / 5

OCS

Well made, the series is a new success.

EDITOR'S RATING: 4/5

They were in town together, a relationship abruptly ended after Vision's death.

But in the series, Wanda creates an imaginary world, with an aesthetic close to the sitcom, in which she brings back her ex-companion to live happy days with him.

Except that this parallel universe has negative consequences for the real world… The first images of the series, in which Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany take their roles from the “Avengers” saga, intrigue with this very sitcom imagery and a very deliberately offbeat tone …

"Beecham House"

Created by the director of "Play it Like Beckham", Gurinder Chadha, "Beecham House" is a British historical fiction set in India in 1795. The country then arouses the envy of the United Kingdom and France.

A former English soldier, reconverted in the import-export, comes to settle in Delhi in a rich residence.

His mysterious past intrigues serving staff and the local community, especially as he is accompanied by a Métis baby and his housekeeper.

The rich sets and costumes ensure a beautiful reconstruction in the absence of a thrilling plot.

Note the presence in the credits of Grégory Fitoussi, who embodies a French general particularly hostile to the hero.

Available in January.

EDITOR'S RATING: 3.5 / 5
