Covid-19 in France: 116 deaths and 12,489 contaminations in 24 hours

The number of patients treated in the intensive care units has increased since Saturday. It stands this Sunday at 2,665 patients.


The holidays have passed, the government has its eyes riveted on health data, watching for a possible epidemic rebound as a prelude to new restrictions and the probable maintenance of the closure of bars and restaurants beyond January 20.

This Sunday, Public Health France recorded 12,489 SARS-CoV-2 contaminations, against 3,466 the day before.

The positivity rate, which measures the percentage of people positive for Covid-19 out of all those tested, continues to rise.

It stood at 5.2%, against 4.6% the day before.

The health authorities also list 116 deaths linked to Covid-19 which occurred in 24 hours in hospitals.

Since the start of the epidemic, the total number of deaths in France has reached 65,037, a figure which takes into account the patients who died in nursing homes.

24,780 hospitalizations in progress

The number of patients hospitalized for a SARS-CoV-2 infection increases again this Sunday.

The health agency reports 24,780 hospitalizations in progress, against 24,458 the day before.

Some 657 new Covid-19 patients have been hospitalized since Saturday.

Among the people treated in hospitals, 2,665 suffering from severe forms require support within the intensive care unit.

This figure, which was down since the start of the week, has been rising since Saturday (2,632).

Over the past 24 hours, these specialized services have welcomed 101 new patients.

516 people vaccinated on January 1

Strongly criticized for the very modest number of vaccines administered in comparison with other European countries, the executive repeats that it is working hard.

Some 516 people had been vaccinated Friday, January 1, according to the latest figures sent by the Ministry of Health to Paris.
