Scientist Allmendinger: "Home office is not gender neutral"

It was an appearance that shaped the gender debate this year: On a Sunday evening in May, Allmendinger, President of the Berlin Social Science Center, was on Anne Will's talk show and claimed that women would suffer "a terrible retraditionalization" in the corona crisis . Due to the consequences of fighting the virus, the country is "definitely losing three decades" on the way to equality. But is that really true?
Allmendinger received a lot of applause, especially from mothers who felt overwhelmed by the fact that daycare centers and schools were closed. But also a lot of criticism, especially from fathers who pointed out that they too had taken on more care work in the home office. Social science studies sometimes strengthened one view, sometimes the other. Now Allmendinger, 64, follows up with a pamphlet. After all, the title sounds conciliatory: "It's only possible together!"
SPIEGEL:
Ms. Allmendinger, you said that the consequences of the crisis would set women back decades.
The debate afterwards was fierce and inspired you to write your new book.
