(ANSA) - ROME, JANUARY 04 - British justice has rejected Julian Assange's disputed extradition request to the USA, where the Australian founder of WikiLeaks is accused of espionage and piracy for helping to unveil American confidential files relating, among other things, to war crimes in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Judge Vanessa Baraister delivered the verdict, surprisingly compared to expectations.

Assange, who faced a 175-year sentence overseas, would be at risk of suicide, the judge ruled.

Washington will be able to appeal.
