(ANSA) - PERTH, 04 JAN - An out-of-control fire threatens communities south of Perth, the capital of the state of Western Australia: about 150 firefighters are trying to put out the flames, which since Saturday have destroyed over 2.3 square kilometers of vegetation.

The origins of the fire are not yet known, while the authorities are also worried about a fire in a landfill, which is capturing fumes considered very dangerous for the local population.

Several roads have already been closed to traffic in the affected area.

Wind and high temperatures are expected in Perth this week, expected to reach 40 degrees centigrade.
