Corona vaccine: can the employer order a vaccination?

Corona vaccines are seen as great hope.

But not everyone wants to be vaccinated.

Can employers order vaccination of employees?

Kassel - On January 27, 2020, the

first corona infection

was detected nationwide

in Bavaria

The virus had reached Germany.

Exactly eleven months later, hundreds of teams in all 16 federal states set out

to vaccinate

thousands of people

against Corona

at the official EU-wide

vaccination start.

The

vaccine

is considered to be the greatest hope in the fight against the new pathogen.

But not everyone is convinced of this:

Around two thirds of Germans

want to be vaccinated against Corona.

This was the result of a survey by the YouGov opinion research institute on behalf of the German Press Agency.

Another 33 percent are determined to do so.

However, they first want to wait and see possible consequences for others.

19 percent have decided

against a vaccination

, 16 percent are still undecided.

One reason for this is, among other things, the uncertainty surrounding the new vaccine, which has been approved quickly - manufacturer Biontech has now explained the side effects.

There is no

general

compulsory vaccination

and it should not be introduced.

Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU)

emphasized this

again and again.

"I give you my word: There will be no compulsory vaccination in this pandemic," said the Christian Democrat during a reading in the

Bundestag

.

But how does it look in the world of work?

Can employers order a

corona vaccination

for their employees?

Basically, it is a private matter whether and how someone protects himself from illness.

This is reported by the private television station Sat.1.

As a

rule,

employers

can

not order

Covid-19 vaccinations

or require them when they are hired

However, this regulation does not apply in professions in which people work with people at

risk

- such as in

hospitals

and

nursing homes

.

If vaccinated people are actually no longer infectious, the employer can decide that the

corona vaccination is

a prerequisite for being hired.

In this case, those already employed can

not be forced to have a vaccination

.

The

employees

can then be terminated, reports Sat.1.
