(ANSA) - NAPLES, 05 JAN - Gargle based on hydrogen peroxide combined with a nasal spray and eye drops are effective for preventing and fighting the infection of Coronavirus in patients with paucisymptomatic and asymptomatic ones.
This is what emerges from a study conducted by a team of Neapolitan researchers recently taken up by a similar survey conducted by colleagues from the Sacco of Milan which confirmed its effectiveness.
The study by the Neapolitan researchers, published in the journal Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology of the University of Cambridge, is based on the daily observation of some patients who tested positive for the swab and then negativized after being subjected to a therapy that is based on three actions on the pathways virus entry into the body: mouth, nose and eyes.
"In detail - explains one of the authors of the study, Antonio Del Prete, professor of Ophthalmology at Federico II in Naples - we believe that the virus can be neutralized before it reaches the epithelium, which occurs on average within two days, enhancing the natural defenses with a gargle of 3% hydrogen peroxide, a nasal spray always based on 1.5% hydrogen peroxide, and an eye drops based on 0.01% hypochlorous acid or, alternatively, based of povidone iodine at 0.6, to be done once a day. Drugs normally on the market and within everyone's reach ".
The scientific results are not lacking, however, for the study of the Neapolitan researchers to turn into a real protocol it must be scientifically tested on a large number of patients: "For this - explains Del Prete - we contacted the Ministry of Health. it has been said that the study is scientifically interesting but that, however, there are not enough resources to make it a real protocol.
200 thousand euros
are needed
, which is why we are now thinking of a crowdfunding initiative ".
