The director is deeply attached to Onward because it comes from his autobiographical trait: "I lost my father when I was one and my brother was three. We always wondered what a day would be like with him and so the film was born".
Onward is considered epochal because it includes the first LGBT + animated character in a Pixar / Disney feature film: she is the cyclops policewoman Specter, who in one scene talks about her partner's daughter.
