(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 06 - Australian Conservative Prime Minister Scott Morrison will not appeal to outgoing US President Donald Trump to pardon Australian citizen Julian Assange, following the decision of a British court to reject the extradition request of the founder of WikiLeaks, for reasons of health and risk of suicide.
Supporters of Assange and members of the Labor opposition and the Greens ask Morrison to press on Trumpper who grants freedom to the 49 / year old Australian, but according to government sources quoted today by the Sydney Morning Herald, there is no intention on the part of Canberra to raise the issue or conTrump nor with the upcoming Biden administration.
Foreign Minister Maris Payne said in particular that Australia "is not party to the lawsuit and will continue to comply with the ongoing legal process, including the UK legal system's consideration of requests for release or appeals".
He added that the government made 19 offers of consular assistance to Assange, which remained unanswered.
