The Grammy Music Awards ceremony planned for the end of January is not due to take place until mid-March due to the corona pandemic.
The Recording Academy announced this on Tuesday.
After consultations with health experts about the acute corona situation in Los Angeles, where the gala should have taken place, as well as discussions with the invited artists, the association made this decision, the statement said.
"Nothing is more important than the health and safety of those who belong to our music community, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly on the production of the show," said the academy.
The US state of California is currently particularly badly affected by the corona pandemic, the health system threatens to collapse.
According to an order, rescue workers in the Los Angeles district are no longer allowed to bring certain patients with a low chance of survival to hospitals due to the overload caused by the corona crisis.
The Grammys are among the most coveted music awards in the world.
The nominations were announced in November.
The 63rd award ceremony is now scheduled for March 14th.
The US singer Beyoncé is the favorite in the upcoming Grammy Awards with nine prize chances.
Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, Roddy Ricch, Billie Eilish, Megan Thee Stallion and DaBaby also received several nominations.
Around 13,000 members of the Recording Academy decide on the winners.
The gala is to be moderated by comedian Trevor Noah.
Academy Awards have already been postponed
Hollywood's film awards are also affected by the corona pandemic.
The Oscar ceremony is not due to take place until the end of April, eight weeks later than initially planned.
