"The suspect plays Lupine. The method, the spirit, the style, the talent".

It is an exemplary sentence from the show about the protagonist's desire for revenge to bring on stage a character as close as possible to the famous gentleman thief.

The wait is over: the French action series 'Lupine', by Netflix, arrives on the streaming platform from 8 January: a modern reinterpretation of the adventures of Arsène Lupine, a character created by Maurice Marie Émile Leblanc in 1905. Omar Sy, already beloved protagonist of 'Quasi Amici', will be the protagonist.

He is initially presented as a normal teenager.

His life, however, is turned upside down overnight, after the accusation rained down on the head of his father, involved and convicted of a crime not committed.

All this leads Assane Diop to grow up with an unstoppable desire for revenge and justice.

It is an adaptation in a modern key, able to transpose the character of Lupine to the present day: the protagonist recovers the literary spirit, taking inspiration from some of the most famous tales of Leblanc and placing them in a current context, in an entirely original story .

As a teenager, Assane Diop had to deal with a difficult life after his father died following the accusation he received of a crime he did not commit.

But 25 years later Assane will use the name of Arsène Lupine, the gentleman thief, as an inspiration to avenge his father.

Apparently, Assane is a "normal" failed man: he lives by the day, struggles between jobs to earn a living, has a wife who no longer loves him and a child whom he doesn't care enough for.

But behind this facade there is something else: a very skilled thief and a superfine strategist, an intelligent and calculating man who, in order to score his shots, is inspired by those of his favorite novel, Arsène Lupine by Maurice Leblanc.

A book that was given to him in his youth by his father, Babakar Diop, a Senegalese immigrant employed by the wealthy Pellegrini family.

Just like Arsenio Lupine, Assane is constantly changing face, origins and name.

Sometimes it's Luis Perenna, others it's Paul Serinne.

All anagrams of Arsène Lupine, sides of the same coin that hides a further layer of secrets.

Because behind Assane's actions hides the desire for redemption: revenge against the family that 25 years earlier was the cause of the downfall of his father, who committed suicide because he felt helpless.

In addition to Omar Sy, the cast includes Hervé Pierre, Nicole Garcia, Clotilde Hesme, Ludivine Sagnier, Antoine Gouy, Shirine Boutella and Soufiane Guerrab.

The series, produced by Gaumont Télévision (Isabelle Degeorges, Nathan Franck), was created by George Kay in collaboration with François Uzan and directed by Louis Leterrier (episodes 1, 2 and 3) and Marcela Said (episodes 4 and 5).

The first part - Dans l'ombre d'Arsène - will consist of five episodes.
