which analyzes the national and regional epidemiological trend of Covid-19 cases in school age (3-18 years), Most cases in school age (40%) occurred in adolescents aged 14 to 18, followed by primary school children aged 6-10 (27%), middle school children aged 11-13 (23%) and preschool children 3-5 years (10%).
The highest incidence peaks were found in Valle d'Aosta (about 200 / 100,000) in the 14-18 age group and in Lombardy, Liguria, PA Bolzano (around 100 / 100,000) in the 14-18 age group. and 11-13.
In September, the document reads, the average age of school-age cases was about 12, and then increased slightly in October and returned to the previous value in November and December.
The distribution of cases between girls and boys was totally balanced at the national level, but with slight differences at the regional level, sometimes with slightly higher percentages for boys in September, before schools reopened.
From mid-September (reopening of schools 14-24 September), there was a progressive increase in the daily cases diagnosed in children and adolescents from 3 to 18 years of age, which reached the peak phase from 3 to 6 November (over 4000 cases).
Subsequently, the curve gradually began to decline, with a trend similar to that of the general population.Considering the trend of the epidemiological curve by age group, the peak was reached earlier for adolescents aged 14-18 (almost 2,000 cases) and 11-13 years (over 1,000 cases) from 27 to 30 October.
Followed by primary school children aged 6-10 (over 1,100 cases) from November 3 to 6, and by preschool children aged 3-5 (around 400 cases) from November 9 to 11.
The hospitalization rate in the school age population was 0.7% compared to 8.3% in the rest of the population.
In the 0-3 year old population, the hospitalization rate is much higher, equal to 6.2%.
