(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 06 - Tiny, Obelix's faithful companion in the Asterix comic saga, the terrier Idefix will star in a TV series of his own, 'Idefix e gliindomabili', a spin-off of the famous story of the Gauls: LS announced it Distribution (Mediawan group) and the producers of Studio 58 who will distribute the series, 52 episodes of 11 minutes, internationally.


    Commissioned by France Télévisions, the project involves other broadcasters such as M6, Super RTL Germany, Télé Québec and RTS Switzerland.


    Based on an original idea from the publishing house Editions Albert René, creators of the comics phenomenon Asterix, 'Idefixe gli indomabili' is aimed at children aged 5 to 10 and is produced by Studio 58 and GMT Productions.

Set in the year 52BC, when Lutetia (Paris) was entirely occupied by the Romans, the series sees the Indomitable, a group of four-legged revolutionaries led by Idefix, fighting against the 'Romanization' of the city.


    The legendary characters of Asterix were created by comics and illustrators René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo 61 years ago.

Since then, their comic adventures have been around the world, selling 385 million copies (each new album is printed in 5 million copies), with 38 albums and translations in 111 languages.

Asterix has also been a blockbuster in theaters with 10 animated films and 4 live action films so far (and with 400 million grosses for live action films alone, distributed in over 50 countries around the world).

The Asterix universe also boasts a successful video game franchise since the 1980s, a wide range of licensed products, as well as the important French atema park "Parc Astérix" which attracted 160 million viewers.
