JAPAN
- The Japanese government has decided to introduce a one-month state of emergency for the capital Tokyo and three adjacent prefectures: the decision follows the alarming increase in coronavirus infections in recent weeks.
Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga made it known during a press conference, in light of the continuous updates of the daily records, which have led the metropolis to nearly 70 thousand infections;
just under a third of the national total.
USA -
The United States has recorded a record 3,865 deaths caused by the coronavirus in the last 24 hours: this is what emerges from the counts of Johns Hopkins University.
At the same time, there were 253,145 new cases.
The data bring the total toll of infections to 21,299,340 and that of deaths to 361,123.
At least 17,288,950 vaccine doses have been distributed in the country so far and at least 5,306,797 have been administered.
GERMANY
- The Robert Koch Institut reported 26,391 new infections and 1,070 new deaths in 24 hours in Germany, in the daily Coronvairus bulletin.
The death toll was recorded on December 30, with 1,129 deaths.
In Germany, on January 5, it was decided to extend the hard lockdown until the end of the month.
The new increase in the numbers of Covid infections, after the decline seen during the Christmas holidays, could depend on the slowdown in the activity of the laboratories, reiterate the experts, who still believe it difficult to evaluate the data.
The incidence over seven days per 100 thousand inhabitants fell to 121.8 infections, from the record of 197.6, recorded on 22 December last.
RUSSIA
- Coronavirus cases in Russia have increased by 23,541 in the last 24 hours for a total of 3,332,142 infections.
The coronavirus crisis center said so.
The average growth rate in the last three days has not exceeded 0.7%, notes the Tass.
The deaths were instead 506 for a total of 60,457 victims.
