A prominent member of the infamous Miri clan can probably stay in Germany for the time being.
At the end of last year, Ahmad A., with a multiple criminal record, was given another leave of absence; it is now his twenty-seventh.
As can be seen from confidential documents of the Berlin Immigration Office, the certificate of suspension of deportation is valid for one and a half years.
Contacts in the gangsta rap scene
The allegedly 39-year-old came to the country with his parents from Lebanon in 1989.
His asylum application was rejected in 1992.
Due to the lack of passports, the family could not be deported.
As a teenager, A. was noticed, among other things, by robbery, theft and bodily harm.
There are now 22 entries in the Federal Central Register.
A. should maintain close contacts in the Berlin gangsta rap scene.
A judgment against A. only became final in September.
The Berlin District Court sentenced him to two years and three months imprisonment for dangerous bodily harm and violating the weapons law.
Suddenly Syrians
The criminal, who publicly calls himself Ahmad "Patron" Miri, has been claiming to come from Syria for several years.
A second asylum application was rejected.
The ban on deportation to Syria, which has been in force since 2012, expired at the end of December.
Transfers to the country are still hardly possible.
Ahmad A.'s lawyer left a request from SPIEGEL regarding the residence status of his client unanswered.
