2021-01-08T18:34:50.422Z

Criticism from Pd and M5s: exploits the murdered magistrate. The leader of the League received it as a gift from the regional councilor for cultural heritage and Sicilian identity Alberto Samonà and wore it in Palermo, in via D'Amelio where he went to pay homage to the slain judge and the five policemen of the escort victims of the attack of 19 July 1992 (ANSA)

The face of Paolo Borsellino and a sentence he said before he died: "The fight against the mafia must first of all be a cultural movement that gets everyone used to feeling the beauty of the fresh scent of freedom that opposes the stench of moral compromise, indifference, of contiguity and therefore of complicity ".

This time, a new controversy over

Matteo Salvini

is

triggered by

the mask donated by the regional councilor for cultural heritage and Sicilian identity Alberto Samonà and worn by the leader of the League, in via D'Amelio, Palermo, to remember Paolo Borsellino in the morning and the five escort policemen, victims of the attack of 19 July 1992.

As soon as he got out of the car, Salvini takes off the one he had and wears the other one with the face of the murdered judge: "Councilor Alberto Samonà gave it to me and for this I thank him".

Then a bunch of flowers under the olive tree planted to commemorate the martyrs of Cosa Nostra.

"Every time I come to Palermo I consider it a civic and human duty to pay homage to Paolo Borsellino and to the men and women of the escort, it seems to me the minimum. It seemed right to start from here", says Salvini.

But all this is not enough because as soon as the news with the photo of the mask makes the rounds of agencies, newspapers and online sites the controversy breaks out, fueled by the statements of exponents of the Democratic Party and the 5 Star Movement.

"The greed for the stage of this character is such that he is ready to create chance and controversy by exploiting the image of those who gave their lives for our country.

Simply disgust" writes the deputy dem Carmelo Miceli on Facebook, member of the Justice Committee of the Chamber and security manager of the Democratic Party.

"The character is now well known, especially in his propensity to mystify and exploit. He is bulimic. But he cannot afford to offend the symbols of the anti-mafia, apologize", adds Mario Perantoni (M5s), president of the Justice Commission of the Room.
