(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 08 - Numbers that have not been seen since 2010.

   Covid has turned the clock back up to the times when news broadcasters played the lion's share of information, when internet sites and social networks were not yet they had exploded.

   The Tg Eurispes-CoRiS Sapienza Observatory took care of photographing the 2020 television news, comparing and analyzing the audience data of the prime-time news broadcasts of the general networks of the last two years.

The pandemic has also monopolized the opening credits, especially in the first part of the year, then leaving some space for disputes between parties and the American elections.

    As expected, the largest increase in audience figures was recorded in the months of March and April, with a growth of 48% and 52% compared to the public in the same period of 2019. A trend that was also repeated during the second wave, with growth between 18% and 32%;

the same happened, to a much lesser extent, in the summer months.

    In absolute numbers, the average audience of prime time newscasts increased in the spring months by more than 7.5 million spectators (7.62 in March and 7.51 in April), reaching an audience of more than 23 million TV users.

Significant growth also in the autumn months, with November and December exceeding the May audience in terms of both audience and audience compared to 2019.

    To find similar levels, we need to go back 10 years.

Since then, the trend has been in continuous decline, as happened in January 2020, when there was a warming of 400 thousand telephones compared to the previous year.
