ROME - An herbal tea is not enough to detoxify the organism stressed by too abundant tables on holidays, better get back in shape with a balanced diet, with few calories based on plant foods, to be followed for two weeks.

To think so is the researcher of the Food and Nutrition Creation, Stefania Ruggeri who takes the field with a series of small rules that start from the shopping cart to get to the table.

"The much publicized detox diets are not effective in purifying our body", explains Ruggeri, refusing prolonged fasts only with water which are very harmful to health.

Detoxifying, according to the nutritionist, is a complex and long thing.

"Drinking even 1 liter of herbal tea would not be enough to cleanse the entire body - explains Ruggeri - as well as skipping dinner to lighten calories after a too abundant lunch and some sense of guilt".

Therefore, no to diets of grapes or water and lemon, instead it is better to choose healthy products, certified organic products that reduce the intake of pesticides and pesticides, as well as always check the origin.

Rules confirmed, according to the nutritionist by a study conducted on a sample of women subjected to a diet of about 1200 calories based on vegetables, fresh and dried fruit, whole grains, little coffee and no alcohol;

after 14 days the levels of some heavy metals were reduced with advantages also on body weight.

"Which makes us understand that the real detox is the diet high in plant foods, free of saturated fat, simple sugars, alcohol and low in calories, without the addition of magic potions."

The secret, he concludes, "lies in Ayurvedic medicine: leave a third of your stomach empty with each meal, with less food our organs will not tire and will not become intoxicated".
