The comparison, although purely symbolic, is strong: across the Atlantic, the balance sheet reached levels such that it exceeded the number of so

The fracturing of American society, illustrated by the assault on the Capitol on Wednesday by pro-Trump protesters, is not the only iron in the fire of the future President of the United States, Joe Biden.

The Covid-19 indeed remains high on the pile of the next tenant of the White House.

Engaged since the middle of October 2020, the third wave of contaminations, hospitalizations and deaths does not give any sign of abating.

The more than 360,000 deaths recorded in the territory even recently surpassed the number of soldiers fallen in the two world wars, according to the files of the United States military.

The number of daily deaths is on the heels of day-to-day highs

As of Thursday, January 7, 4,111 deaths were recorded in 24 hours, bringing the cumulative total to 365,208 deaths.

This is the continuation of a trend that began on October 19, when “only” 517 deaths were to be identified.

Heavily affected by the first wave in the spring, New York State remains the most affected with 38,486 deaths recorded.

Next come Texas (29,278), California (28,040) and Florida (22,316), all of which are heavily populated.

But what are 4,000 daily deaths in terms of American history?

As a reminder, the attacks of September 11 left 2,977 dead and missing.

As for the accumulation of more than 360,000 dead, it has just crossed a symbolic threshold, that of the 357,000 American soldiers who fell during the two world conflicts of the 20th century.
