(ANSA) - PARIS, 08 JAN - The Louvre museum, fully hit by the consequences of the pandemic with the closure of its cultural sites in 2020, has experienced a 72% drop in attendance compared to 2019 and a drop in revenue of over 90 million euros .
This was announced by the Parisian museum itself in a statement.
Closed for 6 months, the Louvre welcomed 2.7 million viewers in 2020, up from 9.6 million in 2019 and an all-time record of 10.2 million in 2018.
During the summer period and the holidays at the beginning of November, without the large contingents of tourists arriving from China, the United States, Japan, Brazil, which represent about 75% of entries, this year the Louvre was able to rely mainly on French people, who represented 84% of visitors. The results were partially kept afloat by the exhibition on Leonardoda Vinci, visited by 1.1 million people and closed a few days after the first lockdown.
Currently the museum, like the other cultural sites in the country, is closed at least until the end of January. (HANDLE).
