The Louvre museum, fully hit by the consequences of the pandemic with the closure of cultural sites in 2020, suffered a 72% drop in attendance compared to 2019 and a drop in revenue of over 90 million euros.

This was announced by the Parisian museum itself in a statement.

Closed for 6 months, the Louvre welcomed 2.7 million visitors in 2020, up from 9.6 million in 2019 and an all-time high of 10.2 million in 2018.

During the summer period and the holidays at the beginning of November, without the large contingents of tourists arriving from China, the United States, Japan, Brazil, which represent about 75% of admissions, this year the Louvre was able to rely mainly on the French which represented 84% of visitors. To keep the results partially afloat was the exhibition on Leonardo da Vinci, visited by 1.1 million people and closed a few days after the first lockdown. Currently the museum, like the other cultural sites in the country, is closed at least until the end of January.
