The Ministry of Health announced today (Saturday) that for the first time four cases of the South African variant of the corona virus have been identified in Israel.
The cases were identified from 15 samples that came to rapid flooring, in the Central Laboratory for Viruses of the Ministry of Health.
Two chains of infection were caused by a person returning from South Africa and a family infected by a person returning to Israel from abroad.
The detection was achieved following an initiated operation led by the Ministry of Health with the Home Front Command, with the aim of early locating the mutation and preventing its spread in the community.
The Ministry of Health emphasized that the different variants cause faster infection, but probably do not cause more serious illness.
Yesterday came into force the decision requiring returnees from South African countries, Botswana, Zambia and Soto to enter solitary confinement on behalf of the state for ten days with two negative tests for Corona virus or 14 days without tests.
The decision is valid for ten days from Friday to January 17th.
It was also reported that unusual requests for home insulation will be examined by a professional team of the Ministry of Health at Ben Gurion Airport.
According to preliminary research findings published yesterday, the vaccine of the American pharmaceutical company Pfizer is probably effective against the British mutation and the South African mutation.
The Pfizer study, which has not yet been published for peer review, was conducted in collaboration with scientists at the University of Texas in the United States.
