Covid: 28 degrees in Greece, crowds on beaches and in parks

(ANSA-AFP) - ATHENS, JAN 10 - The unusual heat wave that has hit Greece in recent days, with temperatures exceeding 20 degrees, has led many people to fly away from the anti-coronavirus lockdown and to pour onto the beaches and parks.


    In southern Crete, a temperature of 28.3 degrees at midday was recorded, the highest in January in 50 years.

In Athens, where the thermometer showed 22 degrees, many have spent the day at the beach, under the watchful eye of the police who tried to avoid crowds and fined that he did not wear a mask.

The flyer loudspeakers reminded people to maintain social distancing.


    Greece has returned to lockodown since the beginning of November, in an attempt to avoid a third wave of Covid after the Christmas and New Year holidays.

The restrictions, which were supposed to end tomorrow, were extended by another week on Friday.


   Only kindergartens, nursery schools and primary schools will reopen.


   Health authorities today announced another 36 deaths from the coronavirus.

Over 4,000 of the 5,263 Covidsi victims have been registered in the past two months.
